We refer to this automatically-collected information as “Device Information”.

When you provide us with personal information to complete your purchase or attempt to complete an online transaction, verify your credit card, place an order, arrange for a delivery or return a purchase, we imply that you give us your consent for systems to be able collect and use necessary information for that specific reason only.

We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimise our Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our customers browse and interact with the Site, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns).
If you choose a direct payment gateway to complete your purchase, then Shopify stores your credit card data. It is encrypted through the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS). Your purchase transaction data is stored only as long as is necessary to complete your purchase transaction. After that is complete, your purchase transaction information is deleted.
Credit card and order data is encrypted and secure. Shopify is Level 1 PCI compliant (https://www.shopify.co.uk/pci-compliant) and uses 256-bit SSL certificates (https://www.shopify.co.uk/ecommerce-solutions/free-ssl-certificate) to keep order details secure.
